Inclusive Schools Week is celebrated in classrooms, schools, and communities throughout the country. The Week celebrates the progress schools have made in creating a learning environment where all children are valued and differences are seen as opportunities, not obstacles.
In 2007, The Redwood City School District School Board officially proclaimed December 3 through 7. Inclusive Schools Week in our district. With this proclamation, the Board committed our district to providing a high-quality education to an increasingly diverse group of students. The district also committed to ensuring that every classroom is welcoming and capable of educating all children, regardless of differences in ability, language, or background.
This year the goal for the district is to raise awareness of Inclusive Schools Week and its message. This celebration will expand in the years to come with events and activities that will further inclusivity in our district and help our schools continue to improve.
In 2008, Inclusive Schools Week will be from December 1 - 5. This theme, "Together We Learn Better: Inclusive Schools Benefit All Children", provides an opportunity to focus on the advantages of inclusive schools in promoting quality education and better educational outcomes for ALL students.
Inclusive Schools Week is sponsored by Education Development Center, Inc., and the Urban Special Education Leadership Collaborative. You can learn more about Inclusive Schools Week by visiting: http://www.inclusiveschools.org.
